The Drive-0-Matic CC-SG

The Drive-0-Matic CC-SG is the modified version of the Original Drive-0-Matic especially made for Chris Cornell.
He owned and made him four of these modded D-0-M pedals that he used with Soundgarden as his main overdrive. He used two with two different setting and often stacked them in lower settings on drive to get massive overdrive tones. The modified Drive-0-Matic has unlike the Original version a diffrent character, with asymmetrical diode clipping, more bass low end and more gain setting. As well as a better dialed in tone potentiometer. Only and exclusively at www.drno-effects.com.

Description

Drive-0-Matic CC-SG Limited Edition

The Drive-0-Matic was my first evolving commercial build that first came out on my previous company label Blendomatic which was an bandmerchandise printing company. I sold my share of this company in 2009 to fully commit to my work as Dr. No Effects that I started as a side thing since 2003. When people were seriously asking (and paying) for my work this device was brought out as the first pedal I builded and sold in series. To be honest, it was never really succesfull selling, probably because I wasn’t really profiling with my work. The build has the full build evolution in it with the first point to point circuit to a self etched pcb untill the currrent way of professional hand production. Still have my first. I sold a couple of hundred.  This changed quickly coming from an unexpected angle when Chris Cornell from Soundgarden became interested in this specific device. Only then I wasn’t really interested in making them anymore and moved on to making other devices. Still had some left over stock that sold out quickly. There is one secret though….the ones that I made for Chris Cornell aren’t the original Drive-0-Matic’s but heavily on specific personal needs modified versions of it that only are made four, exclusively for Chris Cornell, he has the only four of the modified version. Here is how the story continues.”

“My love for Soundgarden dates back from when I still had bandposters hanging in my bedroom as a youngster, having a prominent place on the wall of a Soundgarden pic made by Charles Peterson also used for the Louder than Love record.  It made me dive into guitars and making music. In ‘96 I got to see my first Soundgarden concert. Always stayed a HUGE fan of them. Later when I starting making pedals, I was invited to provide a Dr. No Effects stand backstage at a festival called Pinkpop were Soundgarden played. A friend introduced me to Chris Cornell’s guitar tech Stephen Ferrera-Grand who became very interested in what I made and showed him. He introduced me to Chris Cornell who ordered a on specs modified Drive-0-Matic. Shortly after three more.” The saga continues in the next post.

“I remember I got invited to a show, were I installed them and also had to do a few repairs on Maleko pedals for Kim. As I was aproaching the stage walking under it they started their rehearsal soundcheck and played one of my favourite songs 4th Of July. It resonated so heavy under the stage that it almost became a trip. Ended up on a dark side of the stage sitting on the band’s drinks cooler box and a improvised working station made with a tilted amp case, listening to a full private concert in acompletely empty venue of Soundgarden playing all my faves one after the other while doing my work, (wich is a surreal experience when you are normally used to listen to their music while working through their records….:). One of the most happy moments in my career as a Effects maker for sure. So good, so surreaI. The Drive-0-Matic I made with some modifications to fit his needs on tone. He ended up using them as his main Overdrives untill the end. I’m very proud as a fan and effects maker that started out as learning to play guitar because of them, looking at my musical heroes poster in my bedroom, up to the moment to get invited to provide my work to him using them to create the music I love, in a live setting. I stopped making the Drive-0-Matic a few years back. But lately I’m having these memories coming back of this wonderfull times with Soundgarden, and I want to honor a great lost musician that inspired me over the years giving the gift of great influential music to me. These are a small series of 50 handmade , with the exact modds I exclusively did for him and not on the regular ones I used to make, that I make available as the last series of it’s kind. Made with honor and in remembrance.”
